Feather Bed and Fish Pond

This story takes place in an old Chinese village, where the common folk live in harmony with nature. One day, an old man named Lao Gong comes to the village with his grandson, Little Bai. Lao Gong is a skilled craftsman, and he decides to stay in the village to make some feather beds for the villagers. Little Bai, on the other hand, is a naughty boy who likes to explore the world around him. One day, while he is playing near the fish pond, he finds an old turtle who has been trapped in the pond for many years. Little Bai decides to help the turtle and releases it back into the wild. This action earns him the respect of his grandfather and the villagers, and he learns the importance of nature and conservation.

In the small village of Yunrui, there was an old fish pond. It was said that the pond was created by the gods to protect the villagers from evil spirits. The water in the pond was always clear and cold, no matter how hot the weather was. The villagers believed that the fish in the pond were sacred and no one was allowed to fish them.

One day, an old villager named Li Shan found an old feather bed in the forest. He took it back to his house and placed it on top of his wooden frame bed. He soon discovered that the feather bed was not just any ordinary bed; it was a magical bed that granted wishes.

Li Shan wished for a better life and the next day, his small hut was transformed into a beautiful house with a large yard. He also wished for a family, and suddenly, his life was filled with love and happiness. The villagers were all jealous of Li Shan’s good fortune and wanted to know the secret of the feather bed.

One day, while Li Shan was away from home, the villagers gathered around the feather bed and made a wish for their own good fortune. Suddenly, the feather bed began to glow and a voice said, “You may have your wishes granted, but only if you are willing to pay the price.” The villagers were frightened but one by one, they made their wishes known.

The next day, the wishes of the villagers were granted, but at a great cost. The fish in the pond began to die and the water turned black and foul-smelling. The villagers realized that they had been selfish and taken more than they had given. They decided to make amends by returning the feather bed to its rightful owner, the gods.

Li Shan returned home to find the transformed village and the feather bed gone. He wept for the loss of his beloved feather bed, but he also knew that it had brought about changes that were good for the village. He decided to live his life as best he could without the feather bed, knowing that it had been a gift from the gods that he could not keep.

In conclusion, the story of the feather bed and fish pond teaches us that wishes do not come without a price. It is important to live in harmony with nature and not take more than we can give. By being selfish, we may gain material possessions, but we will lose the love and respect of others and our environment will suffer.
